Hand Sketching

Hand sketched drawings serve a variety of needs in architectural practice. The art of drawing by hand is both an observational and communication tool. Existing site and as-built conditions are typically recorded by hand for later translation to CAD. Hand sketching supports the iterative design process by quickly extending and testing design concepts beyond the time-consuming and often expressionless constraints of CAD. Perhaps most importantly, hand drawn concepts and renderings communicate design ideas and solutions to clients as part of an evolving process. Hand rendered solutions are less intimidating, suggesting room for exploration and improvement, allowing a sense of confirmation that all possible solutions have been considered.
